This safari video was taken in Meru National Park in early October just before the start of the rains. The red 'X' on the map of Meru shows the approximate position of Offbeat Meru camp.
Game viewing was excellent as the park was very dry in most parts and leaf cover was minimal in many areas except around the rivers. There are a wide variety of large mammals present in the park, including the 'Northern Five' - reticulated giraffe, beisa oryx, lesser kudu, Grevy's zebra and gerenuk.

Water is in good supply all year round as thirteen rivers flow into the park from the Nyambene hills to the North and West. The Southern border of the park is the Tana river, which is Kenya's biggest.
Meru was largely poached out in the 1980s and 1990s but since 2005 a huge effort has been made to rehabilitate and restock the park. It is now well looked after and the wildlife is flourishing.
