This safari video was taken in the Mara Ol Kinyei and Naboisho Conservancies in mid January, in between the short and long rains.
This video features the birth of a wildebeeste and some lion cubs playing on the carcass of an eland.
Unfortunately, most of Kenya was experiencing a severe and prolonged drought at the time. Three rainy seasons had failed due to a triple dip 'la Nina' weather pattern, which causes low rainfall in east Africa.
However, the effect of the drought was far less to the west of Kenya and there had been more rain, and so the Mara still looked pretty green.
These two beautiful conservancies boast of a very wide range of animals. Particularly noteable is the presence of high numbers of carnivores like lions and cheetah, although leopards are uncommon.
Late January is the calving season here and there are high numbers of wildebeeste present.
There is a lot of bidlife in and around the riverine forests.
It is easy to a range for a full day safari down to the Mara from the camp (Cheetah camp) in Ol Kinyei and the camps in Naboisho.
