This safari video was taken in the Okavango delta in late August in the dry season. However, this is a boat safari in the flooded part of the delta which reaches peak floods in May-July, because of the time lag of several months for the water of the delta to travel from the highlands of Angola and expand the delta from 6000 sq km to its maximum size of 15000 sq km.
The area we were in is approximately shown by the red elipse We were near the top of the elipse at this point. Moremi Game Reserve is outlined in orange and the Okavango delta in blue.
Game viewing was only moderate, but there are great opportunities for seeing birdlife both by boat and on many of the islands. Other areas of this vast waterworld may have much better game viewing potential, but to be honest it wasn't our priority for visiting, so we weren't disappointed in any way.
The whole area was quite fascinating, as we explored the interconnected lakes via the channels that cut through the endless reed and papyrus beds. A visit here is an opportunity to see something completely different to almost all other safari destinations.
