This safari video was taken in Selous Game Reserve in early September about two months before the next rains. The Rufiji river never stops flowing. The red 'X' on the map of Selous shows the approximate position of Selous Impala camp near Lake Siwandu.

By taking a small boat we were offered a new and exciting way to get very close to huge crocodiles and pods of hippopotamuses all along the Rufiji river. We were also lucky enough to locate a pack of African hunting dogs while out in the Land Rover.

The grey lines on the map indicate the position of mountainous areas which capture the incoming rainfall from the East, and cause Selous to have much higher rainfall than Ruaha.
