This safari video was taken in the Selenkay Conservancy in mid January, in between the short and long rains.

Unfortunately, most of Kenya was experiencing a severe and prolonged drought at the time. Three rainy seasons had failed due to a triple dip 'la Nina' weather pattern, which causes low rainfall in east Africa.

Some of the browsing animals such as elephants had moved into Selelnaky from Amboseli as there was still green foliage on many of the trees and bushes.

Selenkay is perfect habitat for lesser Kudus and gerenuks.

It is also a great place to see the brilliantly coloured Hildebrandt's starling, which is only found in limited areas of southern Kenya and northern Tanzania.

Selenkay contrasts well with Amboseli and the two can be visited as a combined destination.
